Surgical oncologist to spearhead a shift towards more reusable and recyclable medical equipment

“We have a moral imperative to first do no harm. And that includes to the rest of the population who’s not currently a patient, but who is potentially being adversely affected by the implications of the care we’re delivering right now.”

Dr. Andrea MacNeill, Surgical Oncologist at Vancouver General Hospital

Congratulations to our very own Dr. Andrea MacNeill for her recent interview with CBC News highlighting her continued efforts towards a greener and more sustainable medical system!

Dr. MacNeill is launching the Planetary Health Care Lab at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver to continue her research on the environmental impacts of healthcare. By making the switch from single-use to reusable medical supplies, hospitals can decrease the harmful environmental effects of medical waste and prevent some of the shortages experienced during the pandemic.
